MG 4X

The MG 4X is a compact electric crossover produced by SAIC Motor under the MG marque, positioned as an entry-to-mid level offering within the brand’s expanding electric SUV lineup. It sits in the B-SUV segment with a five-door body and a rear-wheel-drive configuration across all confirmed variants. Its distinction within the MG4 family is that it is the first SUV body style on the MG4 platform and, notably, the first compact electric SUV from a mainstream Chinese brand to offer a semi-solid-state battery as standard equipment across all trim levels.

The MG 4X is available with two battery options: a 54 kWh pack projecting approximately 400 km on the WLTP cycle, and a larger 64 kWh unit adding around 100 km to that estimate. Both figures are derived from pre-launch MIIT filings and press previews — official WLTP certification has not been published at the time of writing. Power output is 125 kW (168 hp) on the entry variant and 150 kW (201 hp) on the top-spec trim, both rear-mounted synchronous permanent magnet motors. DC fast charging is rated at a peak of 150 kW, with a 10–80% charge time of approximately 28 minutes; AC onboard charging specifications have not been officially confirmed. All charging figures should be treated as preliminary until MG releases certified global-market data.

Blind pre-orders opened in China on 11 May 2026, with a starting price of 99,800 yuan (approximately $14,700 USD). No pricing has been confirmed for Europe, Africa, or other export markets; MG has indicated that its new semi-solid-state battery technology will begin rolling out in Europe and overseas markets by end of 2026. At Chinese launch pricing, the MG 4X suits urban commuters and budget-conscious families seeking an electric SUV with genuine highway range at a sub-$15,000 entry point — a profile that maps closely to the BYD Atto 3 buyer in markets like South Africa and Kenya, where grey-market compact SUV imports are common. Within MG’s lineup, it slots above the MG4 hatchback and below the MGS5 EV. External competition comes from the BYD Atto 3 and the Chery Omoda E5 at similar segment positioning. The closest direct comparison for spec and price is the BYD Atto 3.
