Kia EVs will soon use Tesla Superchargers in North America.

Kia’s Supercharger access issue has begun a new chapter today. To summarize, Kia EVs in North America were scheduled to have access to Tesla Superchargers starting January 15.That did not happen, however, as the company quietly changed their phrasing on the matter from that exact date to a much more generic “first quarter”.

That expires on March 31, and Kia provided a new update today. Its EVs will have access to Tesla Superchargers sometime in March. So there’s at least a six-week wait, and possibly closer to ten weeks in the worst-case scenario, and it’s a delay that Kia has yet to explain.

In good news, Kia dealers are now receiving the NACS adapter required to use the Superchargers. If you purchase an EV6 or EV9 after early September 2024, you will receive a complimentary adapter. If you received yours before then, you will need to purchase an adaptor.

Kia claims the adapters are “engineered to meet Tesla’s charging specifications and have been developed and tested for use” with its EVs. It advises that the “use of other adapters may result in repairs that are not covered by Kia’s warranty” .
