The Porsche Taycan has achieved another Guinness World Record. This time, it’s for the longest continuous vehicle drift on ice by an electric vehicle.
Instructor Jens Richter drove a Taycan GTS on an ice track at the Porsche Arctic Center in Levi, Finland. He completed 132 laps in controlled oversteer, reaching 10.876 miles in 46 minutes with just throttle and steering interventions. The automobile had widely available Michelin tires with 0.04 inch spikes. The drift circle measured 2,323 inches in circumference. The previous world record was 9.202 miles.
On January 14, the ice surface deteriorated faster than predicted, resulting in an aborted initial attempt after around 7 kilometers. The second run was successful, and it was all done under the watching eye of Guinness World Records adjudicator Carl Saville, who handed the driver the record certificate on the spot.
The Taycan previously held three Guinness World Records: the biggest altitude change by an EV, the highest speed driven by a vehicle in an enclosed facility, and the longest drift with an EV.
