GAC Aion i60 Launching in November with BEV and PHEV Options

Since its March 2025 launch, the Toyota bZ3X, a small electric SUV that was co-developed by Toyota and GAC, has become very popular in China. According to China EV DataTracker, the bZ3X had 33,748 cumulative sales by August 2025, with a pre-discount price of 109,800 yuan, or roughly 15,430 USD.

In a recent move, GAC is getting ready to introduce the GAC Aion i60, a customized Toyota bZ3X, in November 2025. The model will start at about 100,000 yuan (14,050 USD) and be available in both battery-electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions.Toyota bZ3X

GAC Aion i60: The Toyota bZ3X’s Domestic Sibling

The Toyota bZ3X and the upcoming GAC Aion i60 both use the same AEP modular architecture. Models such as the GAC Aion V, which made its European debut at IAA Mobility 2025, are also supported by this platform.

The Aion i60 and the Toyota bZ3X share a lot of visual similarities. The doors, mirrors, fenders, and body lines of the two SUVs are almost the same. However, GAC’s version has a slightly different personality due to its distinctive headlights, bumpers, and taillights.

The Aion i60 is slightly bigger than the bZ3X, measuring 4,685 mm in length, 1,854 mm in width, 1,660 mm in height, and 2,775 mm in wheelbase. It has five seats, weighs 1,910 kg at the curb, and is equipped with 18- or 19-inch wheels.Toyota bZ3X

Powertrain and Performance

A single 165 kW (221 hp) electric motor powers the all-electric GAC Aion i60 (BEV), which can travel up to 160 km/h.

A 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine (74 kW/101 hp) and a 165 kW e-motor are combined in the PHEV variant. Additionally, it has a 29.165 kWh LFP battery that provides a pure electric range of up to 160 km (CLTC).Toyota bZ3X

Market Outlook

In November 2025, the Aion i60 will formally launch after submitting an application for a sales license. But given that it may directly compete with the Toyota bZ3X under the GAC Toyota joint venture, its launch raises questions.

Notwithstanding this overlap, GAC appears certain that the Aion i60’s reduced cost and two powertrain choices will draw in more customers in China’s quickly expanding EV market.
