The Beijing-Hyundai joint venture’s new electric SUV, the Elexio EO, is scheduled to go into production on October 16 and go on sale the same day. The Elexio EO, which is based on Hyundai’s E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform), is Beijing-Hyundai’s first fully electric SUV, marking a significant milestone.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon SA8295P chip powers the Elexio EO, which offers a remarkable CLTC range of up to 722 km on a single charge along with intelligent performance and connectivity.
Design Inspired by Morse Code
The Morse code for “H,” which is four dots, serves as the model for the Elexio EO. The unique square LED headlights composed of 152 LED units and a through-type light strip underneath reflect this.
The SUV’s sleek, aerodynamic profile is enhanced from the side by a D-pillar design, a sloping roofline, and concealed door handles. While a rearview camera and high-mounted brake light are seamlessly integrated into the roofline, a contrasting trim strip creates a wraparound effect between the rear window and the roof.
Dimensions and Color Options
With dimensions of 4615 mm for length, 1875 mm for width, and 1675 mm for height, along with a 2750 mm wheelbase, the Elexio EO falls into the compact-to-midsize SUV market.
Seven exterior colors—purple, silver, pearl white, blue, matte white, black, and gray—are available to customers.
Performance and Range
The Elexio EO offers both FWD and AWD configurations:
FWD version: 160 kW (215 hp) motor
AWD version: Additional rear motor with 73 kW (98 hp) output
Depending on the variant, CLTC ranges from 518 km to 722 km with battery options of 64.2 kWh and 88.1 kWh.
Fast charging from 30% to 80% only takes 27 minutes, making it useful for long-distance and daily driving.
Tech-Driven Interior
With a brightness of 1000 cd/m2, the Elexio EO’s 27-inch 4K integrated display serves as both a co-pilot entertainment screen and a central control screen. Traditional physical buttons have been removed from the design, and a Head-Up Display (HUD) is included as standard.
The cabin maximizes interior functionality and convenience with 29 storage compartments.
Future Plans and Market Outlook
Over the next four years, Beijing-Hyundai intends to introduce two to three new energy vehicles annually, including sedans, SUVs, and MPVs in BEV, PHEV, and EREV variants, as part of its “In China, for China, and to the world” strategy.
Beijing-Hyundai sold 17,871 cars in September, up 8% year over year and 19% month over month, indicating that the Chinese EV market is gaining traction.
