The XPeng P7 and Tesla Model 3 are both mid-size electric sedans aimed at buyers who want something practical without going full premium. The P7 is XPeng’s flagship sedan — a Chinese brand that’s been growing its footprint in Europe and select Asian markets. The Model 3 is Tesla’s volume driver, the EV that arguably pulled mass-market adoption forward. Both target tech-comfortable buyers in the 30–45 age range who commute regularly and care about software experience as much as they do about horsepower.

On range, the XPeng P7 Long Range stretches to around 706 km CLTC — which, adjusted for real-world driving, lands closer to 500–550 km. The Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD delivers roughly 629 km WLTP, a stricter standard, so its real-world figures tend to be closer to what the spec sheet says. Charging-wise, the P7 supports up to 800V architecture on newer variants with fast-charge speeds around 300 kW peak. The Model 3 uses Tesla’s Supercharger network, which remains one of the most reliable fast-charge networks globally — 250 kW peak on V3 stations. If you’re in a market with dense Supercharger coverage, Tesla’s ecosystem edge is real. If you’re not, it matters less.
The P7 starts at roughly $26,000–$30,000 USD in China, though pricing shifts considerably in export markets. The Model 3 starts around $38,990 USD in the US before incentives. In markets like Europe, both face import duties and local taxes that push the P7 closer to Model 3 territory. For buyers in markets where XPeng has an established presence — Netherlands, Norway, Sweden — the P7 is a legitimate value proposition. In Nigeria and most of West Africa, both arrive as grey imports, which complicates after-sales support and warranty coverage. This page helps buyers decide which car fits their market access, budget ceiling, and software preferences — not just which one has the longer spec sheet number.
XPeng also makes the G6 SUV, the X9 MPV, and the G9 — all worth considering if a sedan doesn’t fit your use case. On Tesla’s side, the Model Y outsells everything else in their lineup and covers more ground for families. If neither the P7 nor the Model 3 lands right, the BYD Seal is a direct rival to the P7 in the Chinese market with competitive range numbers. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 goes up against the Model 3 on design and efficiency in Western markets. The NIO ET5 is another P7 rival worth a look if you’re open to battery-swap infrastructure.
The P7 brings a large, well-specced interior, strong range numbers on paper, and a lower entry price in its home market. It does get OTA updates regularly and the in-car experience is polished. The range claims use CLTC, which overstates real-world performance for most driving conditions. XPeng’s service network outside China is thin. The Model 3 has a proven Supercharger network, strong resale value in most markets, and real-world range that matches its advertised figures more closely. Build quality on early Model 3 units had issues that Tesla has since addressed, but it remains a talking point. Autopilot is capable though it gets oversold in marketing.
QUICK VERDICT
If you’re buying in China or a market where XPeng has dealers, the P7 offers more car for the money. If you’re buying in North America, Western Europe, or anywhere with dense Supercharger access, the Model 3’s ecosystem makes it the steadier long-term choice. The P7 wins on specs per dollar. The Model 3 wins on infrastructure and ownership predictability. Neither is the objectively correct answer — it depends on where you live and what your charging situation looks like.
