Damon Motorcycles has returned to the news after a period of silence of several years. With a brand-new model, the Damon HyperSport HSR, the Canadian electric bike manufacturer, which was previously the focus of attention due to its futuristic HyperSport lineup, appears poised to take back the limelight.

A track-focused development of the standard HyperSport, the HSR stands for HyperSport Race and is intended for “riders who want Grand Prix levels of cornering, control, and feedback.” Built especially to dominate the racing circuit, this model is Damon’s most performance-driven creation to date.

A Lightweight Electric Superbike

For an electric motorcycle, the Damon HyperSport HSR’s weight of only 340 pounds (155 kg) is astounding. The remarkable weight reduction is the result of numerous engineering advancements and premium materials, such as:

  • Carbon fiber wheels (17 inches front and rear)
  • Single-piece cast aluminum frame
  • Ultra-compact liquid-cooled battery module running on a 400V architecture

While Damon hasn’t disclosed full performance specs, the 400V system hints at serious power and efficiency.

Expected Performance and Powertrain

The standard Damon HyperSport already delivers outstanding numbers:

  • 200 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque
  • Top speed: 200 mph (322 km/h)
  • Range: up to 200 miles (322 km) per charge

Damon has not stated if the HSR will meet these numbers, but its race-tuned geometry and lighter frame point to even better handling and acceleration.

The chassis, which has a 1,400 mm wheelbase, an Ohlins 43 mm front fork, and a matching rear shock absorber, is modeled after Moto2 racing bikes. The ground clearance is 150 mm, and the seat height is 830 mm. Monobloc calipers and two 320 mm floating front discs are used for braking.

AI-Powered Smart Performance

The HyperSport HSR incorporates Damon’s AI-powered I/O system, a platform that converts millions of environmental and vehicle data points into useful insights, just like the rest of the lineup. Features offered by this technology include:

  • Ride behavior scoring
  • Predictive maintenance
  • API access for OEM integration

Essentially, it learns from your riding style to help optimize both performance and safety.

Damon HyperSport Legacy

Damon’s HyperSport line has demonstrated its potential even in the absence of the HSR. Even though the ICE competitor had all of its rider aids turned on, a HyperSport prototype in previous track comparisons was able to match the acceleration of a 1,000cc gasoline superbike. The Damon’s 6-phase motor, which produced 201 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque, allowed it to reach 168 mph (270 km/h), which was almost the same as its competitor’s 169 mph (272 km/h).

At the moment, the HyperFighter lineup starts at $22,000, while the Damon HyperSport lineup comes in four trims: SE, SX, HS, and Premier. These trims range in price from $23,000 to $45,000.

If the HyperSport HSR lives up to the HyperSport family’s performance heritage, it could redefine what is possible for electric superbikes. Damon has not yet confirmed when the HyperSport HSR will take to the track.
