GMC Hummer EV Pickup vs Tesla Cybertruck

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup and the Tesla Cybertruck are both large electric pickup trucks sold in the United States. The Hummer EV is built by General Motors under the GMC brand and revives the Hummer nameplate as a fully electric vehicle. The Cybertruck is Tesla’s first pickup truck, built with a stainless steel exterior and a design that sits outside conventional truck styling. Both vehicles target buyers who want a high-performance electric pickup with a strong visual identity — neither is a traditional work truck in the same way as the F-150 Lightning or Sierra EV.

GMC Hummer EV Pickup vs Tesla Cybertruck

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup is rated at up to 329 miles of range on the three-motor Edition 1 configuration. The Tesla Cybertruck reaches up to 340 miles on the dual-motor all-wheel drive version, with the tri-motor Cyberbeast rated slightly lower at around 320 miles. On charging, the Hummer EV supports up to 350 kW DC fast charging. The Cybertruck charges at up to 250 kW on Tesla’s Supercharger network. The Hummer EV has the faster peak charging rate, but Tesla’s Supercharger network is larger and more consistent in real-world availability across the US.

The GMC Hummer EV starts at around $98,845 for the 3X trim and goes above $110,000 for Edition 1 models. The Tesla Cybertruck has a wider price range, starting at roughly $61,000 for the rear-wheel drive version and climbing to around $100,000 for the Cyberbeast. Cybertruck availability is broader at this point, with more units in circulation since its late 2023 launch. Hummer EV production has been limited and waitlists remain a factor on certain trims. This page helps buyers decide between two high-profile electric trucks that approach the segment differently in terms of price, character, and target use.

GMC’s other electric vehicle in active production is the Sierra EV, a more conventional full-size electric pickup positioned below the Hummer EV in price. Tesla’s broader lineup includes the Model Y, Model 3, Model S, Model X, and the Semi. Outside these two brands, the main rivals in this segment are the Rivian R1T, which targets a similar adventure-oriented buyer, and the Ford F-150 Lightning, which competes more on utility and price than on performance or styling.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s three main strengths are its 350 kW fast-charging capability, its off-road features including CrabWalk mode and Extract Mode air suspension, and its three-motor output rated at around 1,000 horsepower. Its two weaknesses are its starting price, which places it out of reach for most buyers, and its weight, which exceeds 9,000 lbs and affects efficiency in everyday driving. The Tesla Cybertruck’s three main strengths are its lower entry price relative to the Hummer EV, its access to Tesla’s Supercharger network across North America, and its available towing capacity of up to 11,000 lbs on the Cyberbeast. Its two weaknesses are the stainless steel body, which is difficult and expensive to repair after damage, and its polarizing proportions, which limit its practicality in standard parking structures and tight urban areas.

Quick Verdict: These two trucks are not direct substitutes. The Hummer EV is a purpose-built off-road machine at a price that reflects that. The Cybertruck covers more ground in terms of price points and everyday usability, and its Supercharger network access is a practical advantage for long-distance driving. Buyers focused on off-road capability and charging speed have a stronger case for the Hummer EV. Buyers who want a large performance EV with more accessible pricing and a wider charging network should look at the Cybertruck first.
