Battery Swap Technology

It’s interesting to note that even though the model makes use of CATL batteries, it doesn’t seem to make use of the “chocolate” battery swap network. CATL announced collaborations with a number of automakers at the Shanghai Auto Show, including Hongqi (for the EH7); however, the E-QM5 was not included in the list of compatible models.

This implies that Hongqi’s proprietary swap stations will be required for the E-QM5 Battery Swap Edition.

Market Use & Outlook

The battery swap function of the E-QM5, which is primarily targeted at the ride-hailing market, provides drivers with quicker turnaround times and less downtime than traditional charging; however, FAW may face financial and scalability issues if it decides to build separate swap stations.
