The Jeep Wagoneer S is an all-electric midsize SUV from Stellantis, built on the STLA Large platform and positioned as Jeep’s first dedicated EV. The Tesla Model Y is a compact crossover SUV that has been one of the best-selling EVs globally since 2020. Both target mainstream buyers who want practical, daily-use electric SUVs — though they pull from slightly different pools. The Wagoneer S leans toward buyers already in the Jeep or traditional American SUV camp who are making their first EV move. The Model Y draws in tech-forward buyers and those upgrading within the Tesla ecosystem.

On range, the Wagoneer S offers up to 303 miles (EPA-estimated) on a full charge, while the Model Y Long Range AWD reaches around 320 miles — a gap that’s real but not dramatic in day-to-day use. Charging is where the split gets more pronounced. The Model Y has access to Tesla’s Supercharger network, which remains one of the most reliable and widespread fast-charging infrastructures in North America. The Wagoneer S uses a CCS port and is compatible with third-party networks like Electrify America, which has improved but still has more reliability complaints in user reports.
Pricing puts the Wagoneer S at a starting MSRP around $72,000, which places it firmly in the premium tier. The Model Y starts closer to $43,000 for the base RWD variant, with the Long Range AWD landing around $49,000 — a meaningful difference in out-of-pocket cost, though trim-for-trim comparisons narrow that gap somewhat. The Model Y is available across all 50 U.S. states and in most major global markets. The Wagoneer S launched in the U.S. in late 2024 and is rolling out more broadly through 2025. This page helps answer one core question: if you’re spending EV money on a family SUV, does the Jeep’s brand identity and interior justify the premium over a Model Y that has years of real-world data behind it?
Jeep has two other EVs in its lineup worth knowing — the Jeep Avenger (sold in Europe) and the Jeep Recon, an off-road focused EV expected in 2025. On the Tesla side, the Model X is the larger, more expensive option if the Model Y feels too compact. As for rivals outside both brands, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 compete directly with the Model Y on value and range, while the BMW iX and Mercedes EQE SUV sit closer to the Wagoneer S’s price territory.
The Wagoneer S gets three clear strengths: a premium, well-finished interior that feels like a step up from most EVs in its class; strong acceleration with over 600 hp in the top trim; and a design that reads unmistakably as a Jeep without trying too hard. On the downside, charging infrastructure still can’t match Tesla’s network in reliability, and the starting price makes it hard to recommend for buyers who don’t genuinely need what the Wagoneer S specifically offers. The Model Y’s case rests on a proven, mature product with wide Supercharger access and strong resale value — and it remains one of the more practical EVs at its price. Its weaknesses are a cabin that feels workmanlike rather than luxurious, and a 2025 refresh that still leaves some buyers feeling the interior quality lags the competition.
QUICK VERDICT
The Model Y is the lower-risk buy. It has the charging network, the track record, and the price. The Wagoneer S makes a reasonable case if the interior quality and Jeep identity matter to you and you’re willing to pay for them — but at $72K, you’re betting on the charging infrastructure catching up to your expectations.
