Chery Plans to Enter Nigeria’s Commercial Vehicle Market After Passenger Car Growth

Chery International is considering a move into Nigeria’s commercial vehicle segment, with the Chinese automaker citing strong demand for its passenger vehicles as the basis for the expansion.

Kim Luo, country director for passenger cars at Chery International, disclosed the plans during a recent visit to Carloha Nigeria, the brand’s authorised distributor in the country.

“The Nigerian market has shown resilience and potential, particularly with the reception of our passenger vehicles. This creates a basis to consider further investments, particularly in the commercial vehicle segment,” Luo said.

What Vehicles Are Planned

Chery says the expansion would target businesses in logistics, transportation, construction, and enterprise operations. No specific models or a launch timeline were announced.

Carloha’s Current Chery Lineup

Carloha Nigeria currently distributes Chery sedans, SUVs, and pickup trucks in ICE, hybrid, and full-electric variants. Buyers receive after-sales cover under the CarlohaCare 6-6-7 package — a six-year warranty, six years of free servicing, and a seven-day repair promise.

“This planned expansion underscores not only Chery’s confidence in Nigeria but also our shared commitment to contributing meaningfully to the growth of the automotive sector,” said Sola Adigun, managing director of Carloha Nigeria.

Chery said it plans to deepen its Nigeria presence through expanded operations and after-sales support, though specific investment figures were not disclosed.

Nigeria has attracted growing interest from global vehicle manufacturers looking to establish a foothold in West Africa’s largest economy.
