MellowVans Launches Compact Electric Delivery Van in UK, Claims 61% Lower Running Costs Than Ford E-Transit
MellowVans made its UK market entry official at the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham on 21 April 2026, introducing the MellowVan — a compact electric urban delivery vehicle the company says cuts monthly fleet costs by up to £2,400 compared to the Ford E-Transit Courier.
The Netherlands-based manufacturer positions the MellowVan between cargo bikes and conventional panel vans, targeting last-mile logistics operators who find full-size electric vans too expensive and cargo bikes too limited for commercial use.

What the MellowVan Offers Fleet Operators
The vehicle delivers over 2m³ of cargo space and a real-world urban range of approximately 70 miles. It carries an L-category classification, meaning drivers can operate it on a standard car licence — removing the need for additional licensing during fleet rollouts.
According to MellowVans’ total cost of ownership figures, the MellowVan achieves:
- 61% lower monthly TCO versus the Ford E-Transit Courier (small electric panel van)
- 55% lower monthly TCO versus the VW Caddy (small ICE panel van)
- £7,500 in savings over three years compared to both benchmarks, under representative urban usage
The company also says the vehicle can be charged via a standard wall socket, with no specialist charging infrastructure required.
Proven in the Field Before the UK Launch
MellowVans says the vehicle has already logged more than 1.5 million operational miles across global deployments, with fleet operators including DHL, DPD, and SPAR among its existing customers. That track record underpins the company’s pitch to UK fleet managers wary of unproven EV platforms.
The Market Gap MellowVans Is Targeting
Urban logistics operators in the UK currently face a difficult trade-off. Cargo bikes cannot handle commercial-scale delivery volumes, while conventional electric vans carry purchase and operating costs that often outpace the revenue generated on high-frequency short-distance routes.
The MellowVan’s energy consumption, tyre wear, and servicing requirements sit closer to micromobility than traditional vans, according to the company.
Its flat exterior panels are also designed to double as mobile advertising space — a secondary value proposition the company is highlighting to fleet buyers in e-commerce, grocery, and service sectors.
What MellowVans’ UK Managing Director Said
“Traditional vans are simply not designed for the economics of dense city delivery,” said Japie van Niekerk, Managing Director of MellowVans. “With MellowVan, we’ve developed a purpose-built vehicle that allows operators to electrify their fleets in a way that is both practical and commercially compelling.”
UK Rollout Plans
MellowVans is currently in talks with logistics operators, retailers, and fleet partners to begin pilot programmes in London, Manchester, Birmingham, and Bristol. The company is also building a UK dealer and service network to support deployments at scale.
The MellowVan will remain on display at the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham through 23 April 2026.
