Polestar, a Swedish and Chinese-owned electric car company, teased a new addition to its fleet. The Polestar 7 will be a premium SUV and the company’s first model to be produced in Europe.
The Polestar 7 is set to launch in 2027 and will succeed the Polestar 2 liftback. While not a direct replacement, the 7 will take a more typical SUV form factor, catering to the ever-increasing demand for electric SUVs. Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller stressed the importance of this area, describing it as the “biggest and fastest growing” in the EV industry.
Every Polestar, including the 7, has a distinct design that sets it apart from the rest. Polestar’s Head of Design, Philipp Römers, revealed that the 7 will feature the brand’s distinct design language. While no details are available, Römers hinted to a unique selling element that will distinguish the 7 from its competition.
The Polestar 7’s production location has yet to be announced, but a Geely facility now under development in Slovakia is an obvious possibility. Geely is the parent company of Polestar and Volvo. Officially, Polestar’s decision to relocate production to Europe is part of a larger drive to diversify its industrial presence. In actuality, the corporation just wants to avoid the EU taxes that apply to Chinese-made electric vehicles.
