The BYD Dolphin Mini is BYD’s cheapest electric hatchback in the markets that use the name. It is a 3,780 mm front-wheel-drive subcompact with a single 75 hp motor on e-Platform 3.0. China sells the same car as the Seagull, which launched in 2023 and became BYD’s best seller there. Europe gets a modified version, the Dolphin Surf. Brazil started selling the Mini in February 2024, and it has topped EV sales there ever since. 2026 cars are assembled in Camaçari, Bahia.
The Brazilian car has a 38 kWh LFP battery rated at 280 km on the Inmetro (PBEV) cycle. I couldn’t find a usable capacity figure. Chinese ratings use CLTC: roughly 305 km for the 30 kWh pack, 405 km for the larger one. The Dolphin Surf is rated on WLTP, at 220 km with 30 kWh and 310 to 322 km with 43.2 kWh. No EPA figure exists because the car isn’t sold in the US. AC charging is 6.6 kW, about six hours from empty. DC peaks at 40 kW, and 30 to 80% takes around 30 minutes. Some Brazilian reports say 22 minutes, and one launch report listed a 60 kW peak that most sources contradict. The only 10 to 80% figure I found is about 36 minutes, for the 30 kWh China-spec car. The Surf charges faster: 11 kW AC, 65 to 85 kW DC, 10 to 80% in about 30 minutes.
In China the entry trim started at 56,800 yuan (about US$7,870). Brazil’s launch price was R$115,800, and the five-seat 2026 model now costs about R$119,990. One outlet says the four-seat version is gone, but BYD hasn’t confirmed it. Europe’s Dolphin Surf lists at €22,990 to €30,990, with a €19,990 promotion on the base trim. The car suits short urban driving, like commuting or a second household car. Within BYD it sits below the Dolphin GS (R$149,990, 44.9 kWh, 291 km) and the Dolphin Plus (204 hp, R$184,800). Outside the brand it competes with the Renault Kwid E-Tech (R$99,990, 26.8 kWh, 180 km Inmetro) and, in Europe, the Citroën ë-C3 (from €23,300).
The BYD Dolphin Mini closest match is the Geely EX2 Pro, priced the same at R$119,990. The EX2 has 116 hp, a 39.4 kWh battery, 289 km of range, a 10.2 s 0 to 100 km/h time and a 70 kW DC peak. The Dolphin Mini has 75 hp, 280 km, 14.9 s and 40 kW. It weighs about 60 kg less, but the EX2 is the bigger car. Prices are mid-2026 figures and change with promotions.
