The BYD Dolphin Boost is the second-cheapest of four trims on the Dolphin, a compact electric hatchback BYD sells as an entry-level model in Europe. It is a five-door, five-seat B-segment car with one motor driving the front wheels, built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0. The Boost combines the smaller 44.9 kWh battery with a 176 hp motor. The Active trim has 95 hp, and the Comfort and Design trims use a 60.4 kWh pack.
The usable battery is 44.9 kWh, an LFP Blade unit. The WLTP combined range is 193 miles (about 311 km). EV Database estimates 160 miles in real driving, which is not an official number. Sources disagree on charging, so treat these figures as unconfirmed. One database lists 7.4 kW AC and 60 kW DC, with 10–80% in about 38 minutes. A 2024 trade report gives an 11 kW three-phase onboard charger and 65 kW DC. A third source says 7 kW AC and 60 kW DC for both the Active and Boost. Every trim has a heat pump and 3.3 kW vehicle-to-load output.
In the UK the Boost launched at £27,195, and Dutch listings show €32,990. EV Database now marks this MY24 version as no longer on sale (July 2023 to June 2025), so current and used prices may differ. It fits commuters and small households who mostly drive in town, because the battery is small and DC charging tops out around 60 kW. Inside BYD’s range it falls between the Dolphin Surf, a smaller hatchback with a 43.2 kWh battery and 65 kW motor, and the Atto 2 crossover. Rivals from other brands include the Peugeot e-208 and the MG4 Electric, and the MG4 in its smaller-battery versions is the closest direct comparison. I haven’t checked current prices or specs for either rival.
