PROS
- Very good value: big 82.5 kWh battery and strong standard equipment at a low price
- Wide choice from a relaxed single-motor car to a 3.8 s all-wheel-drive car
- Safe and long-lasting: 5-star Euro NCAP, LFP Blade battery and a long warranty
CONS
- Charging is capped at 150 kW, which is slower than some rivals
- Firm ride on rough roads, and the regen controls are fiddly
The BYD Seal Premium (Saudi Arabia) is a mid-range electric sedan from BYD, sold in Saudi Arabia for the 2026 model year. It is one of three trims, alongside Design RWD and Performance AWD. It is a five-seat, D-segment fastback with a single rear motor and rear-wheel drive. The motor produces 230 kW and 360 Nm, with a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 5.9 seconds. The Seal uses BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, shared with the Atto 3 and Dolphin, but carries a larger 82.5 kWh pack.
The Premium uses an 82.56 kWh LFP Blade battery. EV Database lists 84 kWh nominal and 82.5 kWh usable capacity. Its claimed range is 570 km. That figure matches the WLTP number on a Saudi dealer listing. One Saudi listing site shows 520 km with no test cycle stated, so treat the Saudi-market range as unconfirmed. EV Database’s real-world estimate is about 480 km. DC charging peaks at 150 kW over CCS2, with a 10–80% benchmark of about 43 minutes. That figure comes from New Zealand data, not a Saudi test. The on-board AC charger is 11 kW in UK-market specification. I found no Saudi-specific AC figure, so confirm it with the dealer.
The Premium RWD is listed at SAR 159,900, between the Design at SAR 149,900 and the Performance AWD at SAR 194,900. Another Saudi source puts the Performance AWD at SAR 179,900 and the Design at SAR 151,900. The Premium was listed at SAR 164,900 for the 2025 model year. I found no verified regional equivalent price. The Premium suits commuters and small families who can charge at home and want 500 km-class range in a rear-drive sedan. Within BYD, it sits above the Song Plus, which lists from about SAR 103,000 to SAR 128,000 depending on trim. It sits below the Sealion 7 Premium RWD, which starts at SAR 179,900 and uses the same 82.5 kWh battery with a 482 km WLTP range.
Outside the brand, it is cross-shopped against the Hyundai Ioniq 6 and BMW i4, though I did not verify their Saudi pricing. The closest direct comparison is the Tesla Model 3. Tesla’s Saudi Model 3 Standard is priced from SR154,990. Tesla’s Supercharger network along major city and intercity corridors is more developed than BYD’s public charging in the Kingdom.
