The BYD Dolphin Surf Comfort is the top trim of BYD’s smallest car sold in Europe: a budget electric hatchback, five doors, four seats, about 3,990 mm long. A 115 kW (156 PS, 154 bhp) front motor makes 220 Nm and drives the front wheels. The battery matches the Boost’s, which makes the extra power the real difference between the two. Under the skin it is the Chinese Seagull, on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0.
The Comfort gets a 43.2 kWh usable LFP Blade battery (46 kWh nominal). WLTP combined range is 310 km, or 193 miles, a little under the Boost’s 322 km (200 miles). The WLTP city figure is 460 km. AC charging tops out at 11 kW. DC peaks at 85 kW, and 10-80% takes about 30 minutes. It reaches 100 km/h in 9.1 seconds, and top speed is 150 km/h. Vehicle-to-load output is up to 3.3 kW. Some of this is less solid than it looks. The charging times come from the manufacturer, and no source reviewed had an independent charging curve. EVKX.net still lists its Comfort data sheet as in progress, and sources disagree on consumption, with figures anywhere from 13.9 to 16.0 kWh/100 km.
In the UK the Comfort costs £23,975 (the launch price was £23,950), about £2,000 more than the Boost. German list price is €30,990, though launch discounts of up to €6,000 were offered and AUTO BILD priced its Comfort test car at €26,900 in March 2026. As of April 2026 no Chinese-built car qualified for the UK zero-emissions vehicle grant, so UK prices are before any grant. The Comfort suits drivers who want a quicker urban car and can live with four seats. If range and value matter more, the Boost gives 7 more miles for £2,000 less. In BYD’s European line-up the Comfort sits at the top of the Surf range, above the Boost (£21,975, 200 miles) and the Active (£18,675, 137 miles).
Rivals include the Hyundai Inster and the Citroën ë-C3 Max with a 44 kWh battery, which is rated at 199 miles WLTP. The closest direct comparison is the Renault 5 E-Tech Evolution with a 40 kWh battery: 120 hp, 0-62 mph in about 9 seconds, around 190 miles of range. That is almost the Comfort’s 193 miles. EVGuide lists the Renault at £17,745 after the £3,750 UK grant, against £23,950 for the Comfort, which does not qualify.
