The BYD Dolphin Mini Plus is an entry-level electric hatchback: five doors, front-wheel drive. “Dolphin Mini” is the Latin American name for the car BYD sells in China as the Seagull, on sale there since May 2023. In Mexico the Plus is the longer-range trim above the base Dolphin Mini, and both use BYD’s 3.0 platform with Blade LFP batteries. Don’t confuse it with the bigger Dolphin hatchback, which has its own Plus trim in Brazil.
The battery is 38 kWh LFP (one listing gives 38.88 kWh gross), paired with a 55 kW (75 hp) motor. Range depends on where you buy it. Brazil certifies 280 km under INMETRO. Wards Auto reports 405 km for Mexico without naming the cycle, and Expansión says 380 km, so the Mexican numbers are unconfirmed. AC charging tops out at 6.6 kW and DC at 40 kW. For 10–80% on DC, one data site estimates about 50 minutes from the peak rate, while another says about 30. I couldn’t find a figure from BYD.
In Mexico it launched at MXN 398,800, about US$23,000. A 2024 Brazilian listing shows BRL 145,800, roughly €25,800. Both are launch-era prices and may have moved. It fits city commuters and second cars that make short trips and charge at home. Inside BYD’s lineup it sits below the Dolphin and the Seal. Wards Auto says it competes with petrol hatchbacks like the Suzuki Swift and Mazda 2, and among EVs in Mexico the JAC 10X is a rival at MXN 439,000. The closest match is the electric Renault Kwid, which lists at that same MXN 439,000, about MXN 40,000 more than the Plus. If you’re searching Dolphin Mini Plus vs Kwid, that price gap is the first thing to weigh.
