Coscharis Motors and Asia Star Deepen Electric Bus Partnership in Nigeria After Abia State Deployment

Coscharis Motors and Chinese electric bus manufacturer Asia Star have strengthened their strategic partnership following the successful delivery of electric buses to the Abia State Government, marking a significant step in Nigeria’s transition to sustainable public transportation.

The Asia Star delegation, led by Will Shi, Business Manager for Africa and the Pacific Region, visited Coscharis Motors’ Lagos facilities for a working engagement focused on deepening collaboration and improving performance delivery in the Nigerian electric vehicle (EV) market.

Inside the Lagos Visit

During the facility tour, the Asia Star team inspected Coscharis Motors’ showrooms, aftersales workshops, and assembly plant — infrastructure the visiting delegation described as meeting international standards.

Shi said his team was impressed by the quality of investment on display. “This visit is to confirm the pedigree of our new partner in Coscharis,” he stated, adding that the visit gave him confidence in the partnership’s ability to deliver quality electric vehicles into the Nigerian market.

Receiving the delegation, Ufuoma Umukoro, Coscharis Motors’ Director of Sales and Aftersales, said the visit reinforced the alignment between both companies. “From insightful discussions to an extensive tour of our facilities, this engagement underscores our commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and delivering top-quality electric mobility solutions to Nigerians,” he said.

Abia State Electric Bus Deployment

Chukwu Opara, who leads Coscharis Motors’ Technical team for its EV business, provided an update on the electric buses already deployed to the Abia State Government — the first confirmed Asia Star delivery through this partnership in Nigeria.

The Abia State deployment positions both companies at the forefront of electric public transport adoption in Nigeria, a market where fleet electrification remains at an early but accelerating stage.

Nigeria’s EV Bus Market: Why This Partnership Matters

Nigeria’s public transportation sector is under growing pressure to reduce fuel costs and emissions. Electric buses offer state governments a path to lower operating costs over time, reduced urban air pollution, and alignment with federal clean energy goals.

Coscharis Motors, already established as a multi-brand automotive distributor in Nigeria, is positioning its EV business as a key growth vertical — with the Asia Star partnership providing access to purpose-built electric buses designed for emerging market conditions.

Both companies said the Lagos visit signals their intent to accelerate EV deployment and operational efficiency across additional Nigerian states.
